About Us
Khongnangthaba University
Our History
Khongnangthaba University emerged from the fertile grounds of a visionary dream—a dream that envisioned an institution standing as an ideal of knowledge, innovation, and cultural preservation. Today, in this hallowed space, we come together to pay homage to the pioneers who dared to dream, the founders who believed ardently in the transformative power of education. It is their indomitable vision and their commitment to excellence that we honor and uphold.
Khongnangthaba University came into being as the first private university under the
Manipur Private University Act of 2021. Recognized under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act of
1956, the university stands empowered to confer degrees under Section 22 of the UGC Act of 1956. But let me assure you, this institution is not just a mere edifice of academia; it is a
living tribute to the legacy of Lourembam Khongnangthaba, a lighthouse of hope
meticulously navigating the dynamic educational landscape of Manipur.
In the academic year 2022-23, we proudly welcome 26 Ph.D. research scholars,
contributing to the ever-expanding realm of knowledge across diverse fields. Furthermore, in the preceding academic year 2023-24, we witnessed the emergence of 32 research scholars, each delving into the realms of their respective fields.
In a stride towards continual progress, this very year has witnessed the introduction of
Master’s Degree programs at Khongnangthaba University from 2023 with 26 students across various disciplines, adding another dimension to our academic landscape.
Our journey is in the annals of education, marked not only by institutional
milestones but by a dedication to preserving and advancing traditional knowledge.
Khongnangthaba University has become a testament to this commitment, fortified by its
registration under the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) and inclusion in the
National Scholarship Portal (NSP). These achievements extend opportunities for our students to access scholarships, fostering a culture of inclusivity and support.
Moreover, our commitment to digital education is underscored by our registration as
an Academic Institution under the National Academic Depository (NAD), a visionary
initiative by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and the Ministry of
Human Resource Development. This empowers our students to establish their Academic
Bank of Credits (ABC), providing seamless digital access to their academic journey, from
certificates to mark sheets and beyond.
Khongnangthaba University has conducted numerous activities and events that have
contributed to its growth and development. These include the celebration of the university’s
1st and 2nd Foundation Days, a 5-day training program on Social Protection and
Livelihood Security in the North East in collaboration with VV Giri National Labour
Institute, Noida, Indra Gandhi National Tribal University-Regional Campus Manipur, a 2-day medical consultancy camp with renowned doctors from Kolkata, workshops on the
implementation of NEP 2020, Inauguration of Digital Multi-Media Centre by Prof. Kiran
Hazarika, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and the
